Current Parish Council Projects

The Parish Council often works with other Agencies, organisations and individuals to get things done.

Current projects that the Council is working on are as follows:

  • Footpaths – there is a full schedule of maintenance on the public footpaths.

  • Recreation Area – a new seat has been put on the recreation ground and a new woodland grove has been planted, using over 250 trees. Click here for more. A project has also begun to explore the possibility of putting in play equipment into the Rec Ground. Click  here for more

  • Tree maintenance is ongoing each year.
  • The garden area around the village sign is kept maintained throughout the year.
  • A new slate ‘tablet’ is being organised for the Millennium Oak.

  • A new notice board has been erected on Clarendale.

  • The Parish Council grant-aids the publication of the Bugle
  • The Parish Council produces a Village Guide for newcomers to the village.
  • This upgraded web-site has been an ongoing-project and is funded by the Parish Council. It is hoped to be able to disseminate much more information about the activities of the Parish Council and all other village organisations and to obtain much greater feedback from the general public through the website.
  • The Parish Council renders considerable financial assistance each year to the Village Hall.
  • The Parish Council grant-aids the cutting of the grass at the Churchyard. Relief for some of this cost is given by grant-aid received from St Edmundsbury Borough Council.

  • Highways – the state of the roads is always of concern. Recently the Highways budget at Suffolk County Council has again been reduced which means that service levels particularly in rural areas will fall this year. However, the Parish council are seeking ways to improve the state of the pavements (now called ‘footways’!) which need clearing of accumulated debris and repair in places. The Parish benefits from this street ‘cleaning’ as it is also subject to grant-aid from St Edmundsbury Borough Council. In addition, to help combat the speeding problem through the village, traffic calming is being considered in the form of ‘picket fences’ to form ‘gateways’ to the village (as seen in other villages) on the B1061.
